KORTHAUS has been at the forefront of pump engineering and entrepreneurship for over 40 years. In 1981, Mr. Dipl.-Ing.Ernst Korthaus  laid the foundations for today’s group of companies by establishing an engineering company specialising in pump design. Since 2016, his daughter Ms. Doris Korthaus (M.Eng.) has been part of the management team and, by founding her own company, KORTHAUS, has taken the group to its current stage of development.
Whilst KORTHAUS Maschinen GmbH operates as a manufacturing service provider in Upper Lusatia, Saxony, KORTHAUS Pumpen GmbH, based in Southern Westphalia, specialises in all aspects of pump engineering and service.

1981

Mr. Dipl.-Ing. Ernst Korthaus founded an independent engineering consultancy specialising in pump technology in Dortmund. New developments, including design and complete construction, were marketed to renowned global market leaders in the sector. Key areas of development included concrete pumps and aerial work platforms.

1984

Expansion of the existing portfolio to include the company’s own pump products, with a focus on industrial applications for the environmental sector. The technical expertise relating to the machinery has been protected by a total of 25 registered patents. Today, the KH PUMPS product range comprises a complete modular system for hydraulically driven thick-matter pumps / slurry piston pumps.

1988

Delivery of the first KORTAUS slurry pump type KH30–40 ES.

Accelerated internationalisation of the business division from 1989 onwards.

1991

KORTHAUS Maschinen GmbH was founded as a manufacturing company in Upper Lusatia, Saxony, near Dresden.

In addition to its own production, the company operates as a contract manufacturer for a wide range of customers in the German mechanical and plant engineering sector. The company is based on the site of the historic manor and the former GDR agricultural production cooperative in Königsbrück OT Weißbach covering a total area of 9,000 m².

2008

Complete replacement of the machinery at KORTHAUS Maschinen GmbH with CNC machines, representing a total investment of 1.8 million euros.

2016

Ms Doris Korthaus (M.Eng.) is working on expanding KORTHAUS’s product portfolio to include rotary lobe pumps, alongside her mechanical engineering studies. The aim of the KD PUMPS project is to develop a robust new version of this type of pump, with a focus on heavy-duty industrial applications.

2018

Preserving KD PUMPS’s know-how through the successful filing and granting of several patents.

In the years following, Ms Doris Korthaus was awarded several innovation and business prizes for the development of KD PUMPS, and the project received funding through various start-up support programmes.

2020

Delivery of the first KORTHAUS rotary lobe pump type KD 152-140.

Further machines followed, supplied to the first project partners in biogas plants and sewage treatment plants. The subsequent first small production runs of the KD 152 series were continuously improved through practical endurance testing, with the result that the machines are now recognised on the market as ‘field-proven machines’.

2021

KORTHAUS Pumpen GmbH was founded in the region of Southern Westphalia.

In addition to the product range developed by KD PUMPS, the company takes over the product range of KH PUMPS in order to consolidate the pumps business as a single business unit. Alongside pumps and complementary products, the company offers engineering services and after-sales support for its own products. The manufacturing of required components continues to be carried out by the partner company KORTHAUS Maschinen GmbH.

2023

Since 2023, KD PUMPS are launched in the DACH region, using a specially developed mobile showroom concept to present its patented unique selling points at customers’ premises.

2025

Since 2025, KD PUMPS successfully expands its sales operations internationally, starting in Northern Europe.
